Nokia smartphone by HMD Fueled by the robust octa-core Snapdragon 480+ processor, this device boasts 4GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage (expandable to a whopping 1TB via microSD), and showcases a powerful 50MP camera. Plus, with its substantial 5,000mAh battery capacity, the G310 is engineered to offer up to an impressive three days of usage on a single charge.

When comparing specifications, this model closely resembles the Nokia G42 5G, its European counterpart. The only notable differences are in areas like total memory. These phones possess sufficient power to handle today’s typical user demands, although they aren’t positioned to rival the latest flagship devices.
HMD appears to be establishing a distinct market niche by offering affordable, user-repairable phones. This trend is now extending to the US market as well. Fairphone, a pioneer in DIY phone repair from the Netherlands, has recently entered the US market. However, Fairphones are priced at around $600, putting them in competition with options like Google Pixel models, which are also known for user-repair capabilities. The G310 significantly undercuts both Fairphone and Google offerings, with a price tag of just $186. HMD’s new phone could be an excellent choice for individuals with limited technical expertise who are intrigued by the concept of user repair but may not feel ready to tackle the more expensive devices that require “surgical” skills.
HMD collaborates with their partner, iFixit, in this endeavor. iFixit offers individual replacement components such as batteries, screens, back covers, charging ports, and the necessary tools for DIY phone repair at home. The company also operates a community forum where users can exchange their experiences with DIY fixes. Additionally, they maintain a database that rates phones based on their user-repairability. Fortunately, the warranties for phones benefiting from this official iFixit support remain valid, as long as users undertake their repairs using the designated tools and approved parts.
If you’re in search of an even more budget-friendly option, the Nokia C210 will be available in US stores from September 18, priced at just $109. However, this comes with trade-offs in terms of storage, screen size, and camera quality when compared to the G310. Importantly, the Nokia C210 lacks an at-home repair program. Nonetheless, having this option is still something we value.
